Alien Squawkbox (Original) by Carrie Goller - I named this piece for a very strange, beloved friend of mine. Loud and obnoxious, yet sometimes quiet and mysterious. It is very sculptural. On birch plywood, I started by building up many layers of juicy, vibrant color (I thought of beachy stripes and surfboard designs I had seen from the sixties) and covered it with layers of tinted encaustic medium, then the really fun part - the excavation. By incising, carving into, mark making and layering I built up my Squawkbox. Lots of love went into this very fun, whimsical piece and I laugh and think of my strange friend whenever I see it.
