About two years ago I started photographing my friends from Marvin Williams Center / Emanuel Church in Bremerton. I didn’t know at the time why I was photographing them, but felt moved to do so. Recently I started painting portraits using the photos as reference and started each off with a prayer or blessing, which I then covered in layers of paint. Under, over and between the layers are positive attributes, affirmations and personal symbolism I have chosen for each individual. These portraits are important to me, as I love and admire the subjects and hope to find a way to contribute to our community through this project.
